Jessica from Sunbury On Thames came to see me when she was less than 10 days old. It took her a little while to go to sleep but she was a very relaxed baby so I was able to take these shots while she was still awake. It’s one of my favourite props of all times as you get beautiful photograph of even the most stubborn newborn. No wonder it was featured by VOGUE! Turned out a little top op of yummy milk was all she needed to settle into a deep sleep…
She did the bum up pose very well and looked so comfortable, don’t you think?
Mum and dad had brought some props of their own including a top hat, and champagne bucket. I hope mum got to drink a glass to celebrate the arrival of Jessica.
The new mum and dad had been very organised and had send me some images they had seen in advance and they really like the idea of using some pearls. I am always up for trying something new and since I had those to hand anyway for my cake smash birthday shoots and had not yet used them for my newborn photography, I was happy to try them out.
I often need to convince the new mum to be in the pictures as we often don’t feel our best after having given birth with half our baby bump still in place. However guaranteed this will be one of the photos your will treasure most over time. Mum’s have nothing to worry about though as crop them almost as headshots it’s all about you and your new baby, no baby bump in sight! Much to the relief of most new mums.
I always include a close up of the feet in my newborn sessions but a very popular option is to have your wedding and/or engagement ring around their tiny toes.
