Having introduced a Mini Version to my Full three hour Newborn Photoshoot, it didn't take long before Donna got in contact to book one for her 11 day old super cute little girl.
Although its called a mini session for Newborn Babies, it still takes two hours. I often have long conversation with first time parents about the length of the newborn sittings. This is not surprisingly of course, since my normal newborn sitting takes three hours and I can imagine that seems quite long to most busy mums and dads going about their day-to-day life eagerly anticipating the birth of their baby.
However here is the thing, once your baby is born life slows done.....A LOT.....at the end of the day you will wonder what it was that you have done with all those hours, still you feel you haven't sat down for one minute. Your day has been filled with soothing, feeding and changing your precious little baby and the hours have just flown bye.
It's the same for newborn photography. To do many of the poses safely, your newborn baby needs to be asleep and this is only achieved with a happy baby whose belly is full with yummy milk. This means we will need to stop perhaps one, twice or sometimes three times to feed your baby. Since feeding can take anything from 15 - 35 minutes you can see how quickly your baby eats into my shooting time. After feeding we may need to burb and settle your baby a bit and generally have a bit of patience before they go off to sleep.
Over the years I have however perfected the way in which I photograph newborn babies and feel that I can now comfortably offer a two hour mini shoot. During the two hours I will only photograph the baby, if you would like me to take any family photographs you will need the extra hour and go for the full three hour newborn photoshoot.
What I can achieve in two hours with a Mini Newborn Shoot is:
- Beautiful sleepy newborn photo(s) of your baby positioned on a blanket, using natural light to create a soft-natural look
- Unique images of your newborn baby in a prop such as my Owls Basket on a faux wooden floor/wallpaper as seen in VOGUE
Here are some photos of beautiful little Ivy taken during my first Mini Newborn Photo-session.
